WHAT DO THE COVID-19 & ANTIBODY TESTS DETECT?

Rapid COVID-19 (Antigen) Test:

This test will detect if you are actively infected with the COVID -19 virus by detecting a protein that is part of the virus.

PCR Test:

A PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test likewise detects if you are actively infected with the COVID-19 virus, by searching for the virus’s genetic material on a molecular level.

Antibody Test:

This test will detect if you have had prior exposure to or infection with COVID-19 and have developed antibodies for the virus. For most viral illnesses, a positive antibody means prior exposure to a virus and possible immunity to future infection. As COVID-19 is a new infection, it is unclear if a positive antibody offers immunity. Madison Rapid recommends universal precautions (Hand washing, social distancing and masks when appropriate).

HOW ARE THE TESTS ADMINISTERED?

COVID-19 (Antigen) and PCR Test:

The antigen test is administered via lower nasal swab, and the PCR test is administered via an upper nasal swab.

Antibody Test:
Test is administered via finger prick blood sample.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY RESULTS AND HOW DO I VIEW THEM?

 COVID-19 Antigen and Antibody Test:

Results will be emailed to you within approximately 30 minutes.

Please allow for delay during periods of peak demand.

COVID-19 PCR Test

Your results will be emailed to you directly by the laboratory performing the PCR test.   Should you not receive an email from the laboratory within 2 business days following your PCR swab, please call 718.943.2954 or email us at info@madisonrapid.com

HOW MUCH DO EACH OF THESE TESTS COST?

 COVID-19 Antigen and Antibody Test:

There is no out-of-pocket cost for the rapid COVID-19 antigen and antibody testing, provided that you’ve not been tested within the last 7 days (e.g., if you have tested on a Monday, to avoid an out-of-pocket cost, you’d need to wait until the following Monday to be tested).

For those with health insurance, we will seek payment from your insurance provider.  For those that are uninsured, we will seek payment under the CARES Act.

COVID-19 PCR Test
Madison Rapid charges a $100 non-refundable processing and administration fee.

Additionally, the laboratory performing the PCR test will bill your insurance carrier directly.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS DO I TAKE BASED ON MY RESULTS OF THESE TESTS?

Please see NYS Dept. of Health Website.

https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/quarantines-contacts

WHAT PRECAUTIONS DO I TAKE BASED ON MY RESULTS OF THE ANTIBODY TEST

Regardless of your results, you should continue to exercise universal precautions such as social distancing, quarantining, frequent hand washing, wearing of a mask or face cloth in public, and other CDC guideline recommendations. Remember, COVID-19 is a new infection, and it is unclear if a positive antibody definitively offers immunity.

Disclaimer

All COVID-19 test results are sent to the DOH. The DOH may contact you and modify the above recommendations based on their findings. If so, DOH guidance
will supersede the above Madison Rapid recommendations.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ANTIGEN TEST AND A PCR TEST?

Both tests are administered via a nasal swab, with the antigen test being a lower nasal swab, and the PCR test being an upper nasal swab.  The antigen test detects a protein that is part of the coronavirus.  Whereas the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests detects the coronavirus’ genetic material on a molecular level.  Antigen tests results are faster, and usually available within 30 minutes. PCR tests are more accurate, but results can take a few days to process.
